National Drug & Alcohol Facts Week

National Drug & Alcohol Facts Week (NDAFW) is March 17-23, 2025! As part of our year round online tools and resources Sold Out is providing a simple and powerful program to encourage your students about drug and alcohol abstinence, fentanyl education, and positive messages to help your students prepare for success, we’re providing a in classroom lesson plan with short, impactful discussions that take about 15 minutes per day.

NDAFW Mini Lessons

Each day includes:

  • A powerful fact about dealing with substance challenges
  • A short video featuring a Sold Out Role Model
  • Discussion questions to promote student though & participation
  • Skills Application: A simple challenge to get students to apply the lesson to their life

Monday, March 17 – Fight Fentanyl

Today’s Facts: FENTANYL POISONING IS THE NUMBER ONE (#1) KILLER OF 18-48 YEAR OLDS IN AMERICA, AND THE NUMBER TWO KILLER OF 5-14 YEAR OLD CHILDREN. Over 90 % of Fentanyl Poisonings are accidental

Dead on Arrival – A powerful short video educating students on the dangers of Fentanyl Poisoning.

Discussion:

  • Why is Fentanyl so dangerous?
  • How can you protect yourself and your friends from making the wrong decision?
  • Why is purchasing any pill or drug online so dangerous ?
  • Proactive Step: Students will have the opportunity to commit to a drug and alcohol abstinence pledge after the discussion.

Tuesday, March 18 – Under Pressure

Peer pressure has caused 21% of teens using an illicit drug at least once!

Carolyn Moss WNBA Athlete (Confidence) – Former WNBA Athlete Carolyn Moss Talks about staying focused and confident.

Discussion: Start the conversation by asking:

  • Why is it important to stay away from following the crowd?
  • Hows does staying focused on your goals impact the power to say no to peer pressure?

Wednesday, March 19 – The Importance of Goal Setting

Fact: Setting specific, achievable, and measurable goals significantly benefits students by enhancing motivation, focus, and overall academic success, and encouraging time management and planning.

StoryTeller Roman Gabriel ( Pursue Your Goals) – Sold Out CEO Roman Gabriel takes you back to where his quest to play in the NFL started, and talks about pursuing your dreams and goals with everything you have !

Discussion: After viewing the video, discuss:

  • Why is setting goals so important?
  • Name examples of setting goals in academics, athletics, and at home?

Skills Application: Write down one (1) short term goal and one (1) long term goal for yourself ?

Thursday, March 20 – Dealing Positively with Failure

💡 Fact: Over 60% of youth in substance use treatment programs also have a mental health disorder.

Rory Mcllroy PGA Star – PGA Superstar Rory McIlroy’s talks about the importance of understanding how failure when handled properly can actually help us succeed!

Discussion: Guide students through these questions:

  • How can failure help us to succeed in the long run?
  • What is one thing that you failed at and quit that you would like to try again?

Friday, March 21 – Dealing with InsecurityFact: Insecure feelings and self-consciousness significantly impact adolescent well-being, with studies showing a link between insecurity and increased risk of mental health problems, substance abuse, and risky behaviors, as well as lower self-esteem and academic performance.

Story Teller – Nate Boyer Army Green Beret – Nate Boyer is what many would deem a renaissance man. The former active-duty Green Beret is also a world traveler, a philanthropist and community leader, and a professional athlete as a former football player with the Texas Longhorns, and the NFL’s Seattle Seahawks. Talks about the way to deal with insecurity

Discussion:

  • Why is it important to deal with insecurity?
  • Explain what insecurity can do to our ability to be our best?
  • Skills Application: Identify one thing Nate said about insecurity that can help you deal with it in your own life.
